There actually was a site, which allowed you to download UO:SE for free.

OSI will be publishing it to download sites, because they dont want to lose players, who dont have SE.

The same thing happened with AoS.

I have three UO disks from years ago (first three), but the bloody thing won't update for me so I figured I might as well try to download UO:Gold. I'd forgotten how much of a pain the updating process was.
